Chatsworth Country Fair 2016

We used to go to Chatsworth Country Fair and feel very envious of everyone enjoying the show with their dogs, so taking Elsa to this event was a major goal which we have now ticked off our checklist!

This country fair takes place over three days on the first weekend of September every year and is absolutely massive! There is everything from cookery demonstrations to The Red Arrows, hot air balloons, shopping, food, drink, vintage cars, falconry demonstrations, horses, brass bands, parachute display teams and so much more; you would need to go every day of the show in order to see and do everything… It will come as no surprise that our focus was on anything and everything related to dogs!

When we got to the show ground it was very, very muddy! Unfortunately the rain seemed to be very persistent and we almost abandoned any thoughts of entering Elsa into the Fun Dog Show…

There were LOTS of dogs there for Elsa to meet!

 Shopping

We were pleased to see many of our favourite dog shops at the show including Fish4Dogs, Ditsy Pet, Wiff Waff Designs, One Stop Dog Shop, Dapper Dog and The Waggy Tails Store.

The Fun Dog Show

As the day progressed the clouds finally parted and we decided to head to the dog show ring which we found situated by the river, overshadowed by Chatsworth House itself. Although Elsa was very muddy we had a bit of time to clean her up while the ‘Best Puppy’ and ‘Best Sporting Breed’ classes were judged.

We entered Elsa into the ‘Best Any Variety’ category and kept our fingers crossed…

When the judge came to Elsa he seemed to appreciate her extra efforts to win him over as she started licking him, before strutting her stuff like a pro across the grass!

The hard work paid off once again when Elsa was awarded 3rd place!

We decided to quit while we were ahead as the sun was now quite warm and Elsa was keen to get back on the move!

Other things to do with dogs at the Chatsworth Country Fair

In addition to the Fun Dog Show, dog owners can enjoy a variety of activities including have-a-go agility, dog & duck displays, gun dog scurries and sheepdog trials!

Some dogs just enjoyed basking in the afternoon sunshine!

We had a long but eventful and enjoyable day at the fair and we headed home with a very tired and muddy Elsa.

Additional information:

  • Parking is free when you attend the show and there are plenty of spaces
  • The show can get very busy and very muddy; we’d definitely recommend taking a towel with you (for paws) and wearing wellies!
  • There are dog water bowls available throughout the fair
  • Chatsworth host a range of other dog-friendly events throughout the year including the Horse Trials and Christmas markets. Click here to find out about these events.
  • Dogs are welcome on the Estate and throughout the gardens but must be kept on a lead at all times.
