A charming, dog friendly country pub where you can relax and enjoy a delicious meal.
The Hand and Trumpet is part of the Brunning and Price group and we were told that all of their pubs are dog friendly, which is fantastic news as they have establishments located across the country from the North West all the way down to the South East. Click here for a full list.
This pub is quite popular with dog owners, and we saw another dog arriving just before us so Elsa was keen to get inside and say hello!
As you walk through the main door at the front the dog friendly area is on the left.

We were sat at a table by the fireplace where there was plenty of room for Elsa to stretch out. It’s worth booking ahead if you want a table because it can get very busy at peak times.
The atmosphere is relaxed and there are games to play as well as reading glasses available alongside the daily newspapers. We absolutely love these little touches! The Hand and Trumpet certainly doesn’t feel like a ‘chain’ pub, and the staff were very attentive and personable.
The pub has a rich and interesting history dating back to the 1800’s, but it’s only in the past 20 years that the Hand and Trumpet has really evolved into the place we know and love today. Brunning and Price became involved with the pub in 2005, after it had been closed down for a number of years. They fully renovated the pub and added the beautiful decking at the back that overlooks the pond. Click here to read more.

The Bar is fully stocked with a selection of drinks including local ales which vary throughout the year. They have an extensive wine list and a range of fruit ciders, spirits and soft drinks to choose from too.
Dogs can get their own bowl of water and there are free treats available.
Elsa enjoyed all the attention from the staff and the other customers!
With a menu that is updated daily, The Food at the Hand and Trumpet is fresh, home-made and never disappoints.

Pulled pork wrap
You’ll definitely want to save room for dessert too!
Boozy cherry roulade
Hot waffle with caramelised banana and banana ice cream
After lunch we headed outside to enjoy our drinks in the Spring sunshine.
Elsa loves exploring the area around the pond, it’s a great place to let her stretch her legs.
A beautiful British country pub, well worth a visit if you are looking for good food and drink in a relaxed, dog friendly location!
