Paws and Rewind – April 2017

Paws and Rewind – April 2017

Paws and Rewind is a look back at the places, products, activities and events that we have been enjoying with Elsa over the past month.

April was a very, very busy month! We started with a visit to the Luosko Freedom Field where Elsa and her Muttley Crew enjoyed an hour of fun with some agility practise and lots of playtime!

We had a relaxing lunch at one of our favourite pubs: The Hand and Trumpet in Cheshire.

We also had our first beach visit of 2017 when we met friends on New Brighton Beach – unfortunately the weather was a bit chilly and grey but the dogs didn’t care and still made the most of their outing!

Elsa celebrated Easter in style and even got a special Pupcakes Dog Biscuit as a treat.

Paws across Yorkshire and the North East! We visited family in Durham and Newcastle-upon-Tyne over the Easter bank holiday weekend and also managed to fit in a few excursions with Elsa….there are so many dog oriented shops and eateries in this part of the country!

Our first stop was Salami & Co where we had the best grilled cheese sandwich ever! Elsa also tried and loved her first puppucino.

We stayed in a holiday cottage at Hamsteels Hall which was really good value for money. Elsa loved being on a farm and chasing the chickens around!

We also visited the famous, award winning Doggie Diner in Sunderland and then took Elsa for a walk on Roker Beach where she had great fun with a handsome Corgi called Buddy.

No visit to the North East would be complete without a photo at the Angel of the North so we made a quick stop here before meeting up with relatives in a dog friendly pub called The Red Kite that sits on the edge of the Derwent Walk Country Park.

We also joined two little Chihuahuas called Millie and Spike for a walk around the scenic Hardwick Hall Country Park.

On the way back home we made a detour so that we could stop at Wags & Whiskers Pet Boutique and Canine Café in Stockton-on-Tees. The boutique is well stocked with all the latest products including Pawsecco and we picked up a few treats for Elsa while we were there. Although she was a bit grouchy when we arrived at the café, the opportunity to socialise with the other dogs soon put her in a much better mood!

Our final stop was The Lamppost Café in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, where we all enjoyed some cake before finally heading home!

From Newcastle-upon-Tyne, back to Newcastle-under-Lyme!

The following weekend we attended the re-opening of our favourite dog shop Hounds after their move to Fogg Street in Newcastle-under-Lyme. A week later they also celebrated their first birthday with cake and a visit from Fetch Sketch!

Hounds are now next door to a juice and superfood bar called RAWR which is dog friendly, so we couldn’t resist popping in with Elsa to sample the menu…

The Ten Green Bottles Co has definitely become our favourite watering hole in Newcastle-under-Lyme. They absolutely love dogs so it was a great place to meet up with friends to sample the various gins! Elsa got to spend some extra time with Harry and Piglet too.

This month we have been focusing on finding natural treats for Elsa and trying out BeCo as a low fat alternative to her regular food. So far, so good – we’ll let you know how she gets on with this over the coming months…we’re hoping it will help her shed a little bit of weight. Another favourite product this month has been the Anco Naturals Deer Hide Roll. It’s made from 100% deer with no artificial colourings, flavours or preservatives and seems to last Elsa ages! We’ve also been buying Green & Wilds products and sampling the Fish4Dogs treat and food ranges, more info about these coming soon!

Elsa wangled a few new toys at the Hounds shop launch… She loves crackly sounding toys and this Green & Wilds pig caught her attention so we had to buy that. The BeCo Ball is very handy when it comes to meal times; Elsa loves to roll toys filled with treats/ food around and actually prefers eating this way to eating from a bowl! She’s a strange one… we have to admit the BeCo ball is very good though – it’s durable, easy to clean, and doesn’t have a nasty rubber smell. We might have to invest in the larger one too…

We fell in love with the new Wrendale Designs dog food tin and bowl that we found on sale in the Portmeirion shop at Trentham Gardens. We’ve since added the treat tin to the collection too! We’ll add a post with more details pictures to the ‘favourite products’ section of the blog soon.

April was a good month for enjoying spectacular floral displays including the huge daffodil field at Trentham Gardens and the stunning tulips in Queens Gardens, Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Next month – we’ll be making the most of the May bank holidays and have plans to visit the Dorothy Clive Garden, a day out in Chester, another visit to the beach and Piglet’s 1st birthday party to look forward to!
