The Shed is a combination of café, bar and restaurant, situated in an area of Newcastle-under-Lyme known locally as 'The Marsh'.
The Marsh is popular with dog walkers because of the large, open grassy areas. We have a few friends who live nearby and sometimes take Elsa walking there too! The Shed is an ideal place to meet friends for a drink or bite to eat. Open from 10am-late every day (except Mondays), they serve everything from hearty full-English breakfasts through to pub grub along with local specials including Staffordshire oatcakes. The choice of drinks ranges from coffee to cocktails.
We've been to The Shed with Elsa a few times now, at different times of the day. Although it looks quiet in these photographs, approximately 5 minutes before I took these pictures there was a big group of people there enjoying a drink before heading to a football match, along with several other couples having lunch. In fact, The Shed can get extremely busy in the evenings, particularly at the weekend when they also have live music.
The staff at The Shed have always given Elsa a very warm reception, although she hasn't always been on her best behaviour! She particularly likes to bark for attention when she can't settle, and this has attracted a few disapproving looks from other customers... It's quite a 'cosy' place and unfortunately any barking does draw a lot of attention! Although dogs are welcome in The Shed, there are no special treats or water bowls so you'll have to take your own doggy refreshments.
Our only reservation about The Shed is that we got the impression that some of the other customers weren't too pleased about dogs being there... this always makes me feel a bit anxious when Elsa can't settle, and probably makes her worse! We always try our best to cause minimal disturbance, out of respect to the owners of the venues that open their doors to dogs, but also accept that not everyone likes dogs!
Overall, we would give The Shed the 'paws up'! All the food that we've had there has been really good, the prices are very reasonable, there is free parking available outside and the staff are very warm and friendly. The Marsh is also a great place to let dogs stretch their legs. (There is even the added bonus of lots of dog waste bins nearby!)
