Christmas Pet Parade | Newcastle-under-Lyme | Staffordshire

On Wednesday 14th December 2016 Newcastle-under-Lyme BID hosted a Christmas Pet Parade through the town. This event was extremely popular with the local community and dozens of dogs took part in the walk, all dressed in their finest festive costumes!

Since we knew that the dogs from Paws & Co were going to be dressed as The Three Wise Men and Mary, we decided to join in with the nativity theme and dressed Elsa as The Christmas Star…

Lots of people commented on Elsa’s outfit…it was actually a children’s nativity star costume! There were already elasticated straps that crossed over her chest and it fit her perfectly without the need for any alterations! We glued a star on her hair bobble too (from a Christmas tree decoration) and wrapped some tinsel around her lead to finish off the look!

Elsa is generally very sociable so it’s great to let her meet other dogs… above is Hugo from Paws & Co dressed as one of The Three Wise Men.

Everyone gathered by the Christmas tree in the centre of town while the ‘paw-parazzi’ took photographs of all the dogs taking part in the parade.

Elsa’s friend Piglet was there too, looking very dashing in his reindeer jumper!

The walk began around 6pm and we paraded through the town, much to the bemusement of shoppers who were taking advantage of the late night Christmas opening hours!

We loved meeting this tiny little fellow called Burrito. Elsa took quite a shine to him on the parade and it was adorable watching them walk along together because of the size difference… he looked like a miniature Elsa!

We paused in Queens Gardens for a group photo and the online voting opened for the Best Dressed Dog Competition.

On the way back we bumped into some more of Elsa’s friends – Max and Harry! (Pictured above)

Newcastle-under-Lyme Business Improvement District organised this event with support from Paws & Co Staffordshire LTDNewcastle PetsGreyhound GapAnimal Lifeline4Paws petminding and Douglas Macmillan Hospice.

There were representatives from all these organisations at the event and after the walk we had the opportunity to meet most of them while we awaited the results of the online Best Dressed Dog competition.

Paws & Co were also handing out doggie goody bags with treats, toys and discount vouchers in them!

It was great chatting to some of the people from the organisations at the event and learning more about the dog-oriented businesses and charities in the local area.

Greyhound Gap | ‘A small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds.’

Along with a stall selling various items from collars to treats, the ladies from Greyhound Gap also brought some of the gorgeous dogs who are looking for homes to the parade.

Soon it was time for the Best Dressed Dog competition winners to be announced and it was great to see Scarlet, Barbie and Billy from Greyhound Gap win by a landslide!

The event also drew a lot of media attention from BBC Radio Stoke and The Sentinel so make sure to check their facebook pages for more pictures and videos from the event!

Thank you to Newcastle-under-Lyme BID for hosting this Christmas Pet Parade!

We had a great time and hope that this will be the first of many similar events held in this dog friendly market town in the heart of Staffordshire!
