We visited this award-winning pub in September 2016 and were delighted to find that they are not just dog friendly, they also have a special menu for their canine visitors too!
When we arrived everyone seemed to be outside enjoying the warm weather, but since dogs are allowed in the bar area we ventured indoors to find a quiet table where Elsa could settle and cool off.
We were thrilled to spot the ‘Canine Cuisine’ menu. Of course we couldn’t resist treating Elsa to her own meal so we ordered a small bowl of Probiotic chicken.
Although it may seem like just a novelty to some people, serving food for dogs is actually very practical. The North Norfolk coast is a popular tourist destination for dog owners and when you’re out and about all day it’s easy to work up an appetite, regardless of whether you have two or four legs!
Elsa waited patiently for her food to arrive and she couldn’t wait to find out what was in the bowl…
…She quickly polished off one of the ‘garnishes’ and we saved the other two for later.
It was a very generous portion of food and she didn’t manage to finish it all, but she seemed to enjoy what she’d eaten and then settled under the table for an afternoon nap while we ate our lunch.
The restaurant menu had a tempting selection of classics from fish & chips to burgers and steak, but this was no ordinary pub grub; The Orange Tree has won several awards for it’s food, so we had high expectations. We decided to try their award-winning dishes and ordered a free range chicken and wild mushroom pie along with the seafood spaghetti. Both were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious!
After our hearty lunch we had no room for dessert so we decided to make the most of the lovely weather and head down to the beach for a gentle walk now that Elsa had recharged her batteries.
With it’s relaxed atmosphere and high quality food it’s not hard to see why The Orange Tree has won so many awards! We really enjoyed our visit with Elsa and would love to see more dog friendly restaurants and pubs following The Orange Tree’s example and offering dogs their own menus!
- The Orange Tree also has 10 en suite bedrooms, some of which are dog friendly. There is a small additional charge to stay with your dog.
