Darwin’s Townhouse | Shrewsbury | Shropshire

Darwin's Townhouse is part of the Shrewsbury-based DiTella Group which includes The Loopy Shrew and Porterhouse [now re-branded as Darwin's Kitchen].

All of these venues have dog friendly sections and if you are looking for a B&B they also have boutique, dog friendly rooms too!

Darwin's Townhouse is the only venue that doesn't have a restaurant but it does have the added benefit of a beautiful garden. It's also very close to the path that runs along the banks of the River Severn (ideal for dog walking) so it was our first choice when we were looking at options that would suit Elsa best.

The Room

Our Garden room was ideal; perfect for taking Elsa for 'toilet breaks'. The room itself was quite spacious and very tastefully decorated with a modern twist to the Darwinian theme. It was very clean and there were lots of nice surprises including homemade brownies, flapjacks and Molton Brown toiletries.

We stayed on a Monday night and took advantage of the Stay and Dine offer which included a 2 course meal and full English breakfast. Meals are available at Porterhouse [now Darwin's Kitchen] or The Loopy Shrew and on this occasion we chose to dine at The Loopy Shrew.

Before we headed across town for our meal we couldn't resist a little tipple from the very well stocked Honesty Bar...

Darwin's Townhouse is a Grade II listed building and you can see beautifully preserved plasterwork by Joseph Bromfield in several areas including the Lounge and Snug.

We were told that we could take dogs into the lounge rooms but not into the breakfast area, so we left Elsa in the room while we had breakfast. If you'd prefer to stay with your dogs they can deliver food to your room too.

Everyone was very friendly towards Elsa and we felt very welcome. In fact, we loved it here so much that when we checked out we booked our next stay here at the same time:

Update - August 2017 | We returned to Darwin's Townhouse to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This time we stayed below the breakfast area in a spacious and beautifully decorated room. It is offered at a discounted rate because it can get rather noisy from 7am onwards... Elsa is usually up at the crack of dawn anyway (and makes sure that we are too) so this made no difference to us! The only thing you have to remember when you stay in this room is to draw the curtains before using the bathroom, unless you plan on mooning everyone in the garden!

We love Darwin's Townhouse so much that I'm certain this won't be our last visit...
