The Armoury | Shrewsbury | Shropshire

We came across The Armoury as we were walking along the path beside the river on our last visit to Shrewsbury.

Just as I was about to poke my head in to see if dogs were allowed inside, a gorgeous little Shih Tzu stepped out of the door and answered my question!

A waitress showed us to the dog friendly section; this is on the right as you walk into The Armoury – the area at the back, adjacent to the bar.

We decided to have a ‘light’ lunch and ordered some sandwiches.

Elsa happily settled under the table while we waited for our food to arrive.

While we enjoyed our lunch we could see black clouds closing in outside and before we knew it there was a thunderstorm overhead!

All the people that had been enjoying their drinks in the sunshine were now completely drenched and scrambling into the pub.

Fortunately Elsa was unfazed by storm and watched the scene unfold from under the table.

With the rain hammering down outside, we decided to take advantage of our cosy surroundings and ordered another drink.

I tried a ‘Belsazar Red’ – vermouth with ginger ale. The cinnamon, nutmeg, orange and vanilla notes reminded me of Christmas!

Despite the pub being quite busy by this point it still felt very relaxed. There were a number of families with children and a few other couples had settled in the bar area with their dogs.

Fortunately the storm didn’t last too long so when we finished our drinks we headed back out to continue exploring Shrewsbury and walk off our lunch.

There are lots of dog friendly things to do nearby including a river cruise from the jetty opposite the pub, and the path along the river takes you to Quarry Park which is always filled with dogs.

The Armoury is part of the Brunning and Price Group and we regularly visit one of their other pubs; The Hand & Trumpet. We could see many similarities between the two pubs in terms of the decor and relaxed atmosphere, (and the fact that they are both dog friendly) but each has it’s own tailored menu and selection of drinks that include local favourites and specialities.

I absolutely loved The Armoury and we’ll definitely visit this pub again!
