Four years in our lives but the equivalent of 28 have passed for Elsa. How time flies.
We wanted to spoil Elsa for her birthday but there are some things that no money in the world can buy and that includes the wag of a dog's tail. This year, instead of buying her accessories and treats, we opted for an experience that she'd really enjoy...
We've been dying to take Elsa to the St. Annes Beach Huts ever since the Paws across Britain Pack members Enzo & Rocco told us about them, and since Elsa loves the beach so much we thought that this would be the perfect way to celebrate her birthday.
The beach huts are fully equipped with a kettle, fridge, microwave and crockery along with a comfortable bench seat and additional deck chairs. It was great to have somewhere that we could store all of our things securely while we walked along the beach instead of carrying lots of bags around all day. Guests are also given a key to a communal area where there are more facilities including toilets and trolleys that you can borrow to transport your belongings to and from the car park. Having the extra decking at the front of the hut gives you some valuable space on the promenade so you never feel crowded. Elsa loved watching the world go by while we relaxed inside.
The weather can be difficult to predict in October but we couldn't believe how lucky we were to have such a gorgeous sunny and warm day!
Paws and Celebrate!
You can't have a birthday without cake and I found the recipe for this one on the Blue Cross website, click here for details. It was so quick and easy to make with just 4 ingredients and I decorated it with lactose free cream cheese.
The seasonal dog ban on this beach ends on the 31st of September so we were able to walk Elsa all the way to St. Annes Pier, although we made sure to put her on her lead before she caught sight of the donkeys! The signs said that the ban comes back into force on Good Friday but the area in front of the beach huts seems to be dog friendly all year round according to the local visitor information website.
The majority of the people that we saw had at least one dog with them (but many had several) and Elsa had lots of fun meeting them all. When there were no dogs to be seen we played chase with Elsa, one of her favourite games!
Nothing compares to the joy in Elsa's eyes when she runs along the beach with the sand beneath her paws.
Luckily the tide was out all day so there was plenty of space to run around and because Elsa didn't get too wet she was also quite clean at the end of the day.
Elsa had so much fun, I can definitely see us returning to the St. Annes Beach Huts!
Several new huts have recently been added to the promenade and the same company also have local apartments that they rent out to holidaymakers.
A little birdie has told us that they may even be extending their dog friendly policy to one of their apartments too!
With each year that passes we see Elsa change so much. Every moment is precious and I'm so glad that we rented the beach hut because it allowed us to spend some real quality time together on this special day, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Happy 4th Birthday Elsa!
