UPDATE FEB 2019: Dougal’s Den has recently re-located to 7 High St. Leek, so we took Elsa to check the swanky new shop out!
Based in Leek, a dog friendly market town in Staffordshire, Dougal’s Den is packed from floor to ceiling with an amazing range of products for dogs, and some for cats too!
This shop is one of our favorites… they always seem have something new in stock and Elsa usually gets a big fuss and a treat.
Every inch of the shop is bursting with variety: from different types of toys to a range of coats to suit every shape and size of dog. Dougal’s Den also stocks wholesome dog food and treats. From puppies to seniors, you can find something for any dog in this shop!
Throw us a bone Dougal’s Den!
We’ve been visiting this store for years, but never really stopped to have a proper chat so we asked a few questions about the re-location and what visitors can expect from the new shop:
How long has Dougal’s Den been in Leek?
Dougal’s Den started online but we decided to make the move to a physical shop just over 6 years ago.
What prompted the move?
The move to High Street was due to looking for larger premises so we could reunite with Top Dogs Grooming as the two businesses work very well together. It’s good to have a professional groomer onsite for customers to obtain advice on grooming requirements and products they can use at home.
What can people (and pooches) expect from the new store?
The new store is more accessible with now being situated on one floor and located opposite one of the main car parks. We are looking to increase the range of natural treats and also on the look out for more dog toys that are different to what can be found elsewhere.
What sets Dougal’s Den apart from other pet shops?
We feel that what sets us aside is we look for high quality products, treats and food.
What are your bestsellers?/ What drives the pooches wild when they visit the store?
Our bestsellers are all things natural, from treats to shampoos to supplements. Owners are a lot more aware of what they are giving to their poochies and love the fact that we stock a large range of natural products.
Dougal’s Den also support local dog charities including Moorlands Dog Rescue and their recent Santa Paws event raised over £250 through donations and the sale of raffle tickets!
I love seeing shops like this thrive and it’s clear that the residents of Leek really value their independent local businesses.

- Leek has a number of long and short stay car parks within easy walking distance of the town centre and Dougal’s Den.
- Brough Park is very popular with dog walkers. We like to park in one of the adjacent car parks and walk Elsa around here on our way to/ from the shops.
- Leek is very dog friendly with a number of restaurants, cafés and shops all welcoming dogs inside or into their courtyard areas. Most places also have stickers on the windows so that you can easily see where dogs are allowed at a glance! There is an information board and leaflets available in Dougal’s Den to direct you to the dog friendly locations, businesses and services in and around Leek.
