petplace is a superstore filled with all sorts of exciting things to buy and experiences to be had with your dogs. This place is HUGE and features a dog park, coffee bar and self service dog wash all under one roof. They also hold regular movie nights and themed meetups/ play sessions for dogs! We headed over to the North Wales coast with Elsa and Buffy to check it out…
Dog Park & Coffee Bar
We couldn’t have picked a worse day for the weather, it was raining cats and dogs the entire journey, but I wasn’t worried because I knew the girls wouldn’t get drenched in the indoor dog park so this was where we headed when we arrived. They have specific session times listed that are categorised by dog size or breed type, but it’s open for general play outside of these slots. There are a few ‘house rules’ to obey inside the park and these include things like ‘no excessive barking’ and dogs are also not allowed to enter if they have just eaten etc.
Buffy and Elsa seemed to enjoy sniffing around and exploring the enclosure for a little while, but when they couldn't entice any of the other dogs to play Elsa started to get a little bored so we decided to have a rest and grab a drink in the adjacent coffee bar. petplace serve a range of treats and beverages for both humans and hounds so the girls shared a baked cheesy bone while we had a coffee and a slice of cake. Unfortunately this was where our experience went downhill a little because Elsa was very unsettled in the coffee bar and started barking at all the dogs that she could see in the play area, partly due to the fact that one of them had got hold of a very loud squeaky toy and was relentlessly attacking it. The squeaking and the barking were both a bit too much so we decided to cut our rest short and headed into the shop to have a look around.
It’s always great to find somewhere that has a good, varied range of products/ brands and petplace definitely delivers the goods in this department. They have everything that you might need for your pets from toys to accessories, treats, food and healthcare products.
Self Service Dog Wash
As we waited at the till to pay for a couple of little toys and accessories that we’d picked up every dog owner’s worst nightmare unfolded; Buffy did a huge poo and, to make matters even worse, the bag that we used to pick it up had a hole in it! My poor husband quickly disappeared to get rid of the offending deposit and to wash his hands, leaving me stranded, wrangling Elsa, Buffy and our raincoats while I was scrambling through my bag to get my purse so that I could pay for everything! I couldn’t blame him, but the situation just kept getting worse because then I realised that Buffy’s rear end still looked pretty grim. Luckily I remembered the self service dog wash so I quickly returned to the till to buy a token. It cost £10 but I would have paid double that to make sure that Buffy was cleaned up before we got back in the car for the 90 minute journey home.
I was extremely impressed with the dog wash! Instructions were offered and help was on hand had I needed it, (the staff were wonderful) but the system was incredibly easy to use. Despite the circumstances that led us to the dog wash, this was actually my favourite thing in the store! Within a few minutes I had Buffy satisfactorily washed and dried with no fuss whatsoever.
