The Doghouse Coffee Lounge is based within a business park so it’s slightly off the beaten track but there are clear directions on their website and there is a car park at the front. There is an outdoor seating area but it’s far too chilly this time of year, and there is so much space inside that I’m sure it wouldn’t ever feel crowded, even if it was busy. It’s important to take into consideration that dogs might not be comfortable cramped in an unusual place amongst unfamiliar paws, the more space they can have the better.
It’s clear that The Doghouse Coffee Lounge has taken their canine customers’ needs into account when designing the interior and layout.
In addition to the spacious seating areas, there are dog beds, blankets and even crates thoughtfully situated under a few of the tables so that dogs have every option to make themselves comfortable. There are even cleaning supplies available in case of any accidents!
We arrived early on a Saturday morning and had the entire place to ourselves for a little while, this gave Buffy and Elsa the opportunity to have a good sniff around without disturbing anyone else. Their little noses were twitching with excitement when they realised that the treats on the counter were actually for dogs! I picked up the menu and only got as far as the first item, my favourite ‘French Toast with American style bacon & Maple syrup’ and it was absolutely delicious, washed down with a flat white.
As we ate, a few more customers started to arrive and the girls were eager to bark 'hello'… The great thing about The Doghouse Coffee Lounge is that you can be pretty certain that the other people who go there also love dogs just as much as you do!
Even when the girls were behaving a bit rowdier than we would normally like/ allow in a public place, I was still able to relax and enjoy my meal whereas I usually get quite anxious when we are somewhere that is ‘dog friendly’ but they are expected to be seen and not heard.
There is a friendly, down to earth vibe at The Doghouse Coffee Lounge. The service was quick, the food was perfectly portioned, the coffee was very satisfying and, most importantly, Elsa & Buffy were made to feel right at home. We genuinely can’t wait to go again and hopefully next time we’ll get to meet the resident pooches Martha & Doris - watch this space!
