Elsa turned 6 today, so naturally we celebrated with extra treats, new toys and a lovely beach walk!
Celebrating Elsa's birthday is starting to feel a little bittersweet as she gets older...
I've seen a lot of changes in Elsa since her last birthday. She's calmer, although Buffy still manages to bring out the playful puppy in her, and I'm so thankful that their relationship has developed in this wonderful, positive way. Buffy does still have a lot of growing up to do, but seeing her learn from and copy Elsa definitely makes my heart melt at times.
Elsa has also changed physically over the past year. If you've been following us for a while you may have noticed that we aren't putting her top knot bows in as often, this is because the fur on her head and tail has thinned out a little. (I even had her checked out by her vet to see if there were any underlying conditions, but am pleased to report that it doesn't seem to be anything sinister.) This is probably just the first noticeable physical sign of her getting a little bit older.
To celebrate her 6th birthday, we treated Elsa (and Buffy) to a very special cake and biscuits from Pupcakes Dog Bakery. They use human grade ingredients and the quality is always consistent, they also don't seem to use peanut butter (which is good because that tends to upset Elsa & Buffy's tummies!) so this brand is a firm favourite of ours when it comes to treating the girls on special occasions.
I thought that Elsa had grown out of playing with toys altogether because she rarely shows any interest in them these days, but we've recently discovered that she absolutely LOVES Tug-E-Nuff dog gear, particularly the Pocket Squeaker that we bought from Ginger&Browns. Elsa's birthday was the perfect excuse to add the Chaser Toy and Bungee Tug to our collection! These toys are great training aids that really help you engage with your dog through playing with them.
To finish the day off we took Elsa to her favourite place for a walk - the beach! I'll never get tired of watching Elsa and Buffy play and run around on the beach. They are hilarious!
Special shout out to Sense of Pawfection for making these gorgeous collars for Elsa and Buffy out of the last little bit of fabric in this pattern, they were the perfect birthday accessories.
I now have two very satisfied, sleepy pups snoring away as I type. Here's to many more years of making happy memories... Happy Birthday Elsa!
