This beautiful drawing of Buffy and Elsa was kindly given to us by Portrait Pals when we collaborated with them back in Jan/Feb 2020. Now this really does feel like a lifetime ago... Buffy has changed so much since then too! I adore this portrait and have since had it properly framed.
In May we joined in the celebrations to make the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Spirits were high, despite events being cancelled due to the lockdown and social distancing measures. We celebrated at home with afternoon tea and a garden party with Buffy and Elsa.
Buffy features very heavily in our most liked photos of 2020! She has really blossomed this year and it's been amazing to see her change from a fluffy puppy into the gorgeous girl that she is now... even if there have been a few hiccups along the way. I haven't really blogged about this properly before, but just over a year ago I started taking Buffy to ringcraft classes, partly because I wanted to spend some time with her one-on-one, and partly because I was curious about the show dog world and I wanted to see if she showed any potential. In January 2020 we jumped in at the deep end when Buffy competed in the Manchester Championship Show. To my delight she was awarded the 'reserve' place in her class, but narrowly missed out on qualifying for Crufts. I still felt like this was a huge achievement for both of us, given that this was our first ever competition! Sadly, her show career was to come to an abrupt end when the UK went into lockdown and all foreseeable shows were cancelled... I've since abandoned any hopes of showing her competitively, but hopefully we'll be able to attend fun shows in the future.
In September, we travelled to Northumberland for a week... We had planned on staying with family but had to go alone in the end due to quarantine restrictions which made it difficult for our family to join us. This photograph was taken at one of our favourite dog friendly pubs in Britain (and the inspiration behind Paws across Britain), The Lord Crewe Arms in Blanchland, County Durham, where we enjoyed a lovely lunch in their garden area with Buffy and Elsa.
This last photo was taken on my birthday in July 2020, when we rented one of the St. Annes Beach Huts. It was such a fun-filled day, despite the weather being a little bit sketchy! You can see from the picture that Elsa and Buffy are so alike... they had a lot of fun playing and running around together on the beach that day.
As 2020 draws to a close, I'm grateful for all of the good times that we have had with Elsa and Buffy over the past 12 months. If ever there was a year for counting blessings, this was it.
As we look ahead to 2021, with a mixture of hope and anxiousness, we would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year for 2021!
