Today we celebrated Buffy’s 2nd Birthday with cake, piñatas, presents and an afternoon in the sunshine!
There have been a lot of ups and downs over the past year for little Buffy… We celebrated her first birthday in lockdown, but Buffy & Elsa had the added advantage of having us around 24/7 when we shifted to working from home full time. Thankfully we did have a bit more freedom over the summer and were able to go on quite a few dog friendly adventures together and enjoyed finding some hidden gems like The Wolseley Centre on our doorstep too.
By August I had abandoned all hopes of showing Buffy, although it was only ever something that I had hoped to do for fun with her anyway but, with no end in sight to the ongoing pandemic, it seemed like Buffy’s window of opportunity had firmly closed.
I started trimming her coat and then decided that if we weren’t going to show her, then we may as well have a bit of fun; Buffy’s Asian Fusion Makeover by Lisa Hart looked AMAZING! The style really suited her, but sadly things went a little downhill soon afterwards when Buffy fell really ill with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. I don’t know how it started but honestly, I have never been so upset or worried.
Fortunately, she was given the best possible veterinary care and bounced back to full health but she had to have a lot of fur shaved off during her treatment and I thought it might be better to start growing her coat from scratch again. As you can see from recent pics, it’s getting there now… it really is amazing how fast their fur grows!
We got Buffy’s birthday cake from Pupcakes Dog Bakery and it went down a treat, I honestly can’t recommend this wonderful dog bakery enough.
The service is excellent and everything is always baked and decorated to perfection. Buffy and Elsa loved their treats, and there were no upset tummies, which is always a bonus!
Along with the cake, Buffy and Elsa thoroughly enjoyed ripping into their mini piñatas which were filled with tasty ORIJEN Freeze Dried treats. Elsa caught on straight away, but it didn’t take Buffy long to figure out how this party game worked…
I can’t take the credit for this idea because I was inspired to get the girls the piñatas after seeing how much fun Alan the poodle had with his on his birthday!
The fun didn’t stop there as we also enjoyed a lovely stroll around Glebe Farm in Astbury in the sunshine, where Buffy and Elsa got to meet some real alpacas! It feels so good to be able to go back to some of our favourite dog friendly places again. We’ve counted our blessings more than once over the past year, but we are optimistic that things will continue to improve and we’ll have more freedom to support wonderful venues like this as much as possible now that the lockdown restrictions have eased.
We couldn’t have wished for a lovelier day. Here’s to many more happy, healthy years ahead – Happy Birthday Buffy!
